I've never experienced a creeping bite like this. The fruitiness is more reminiscent of lush plums than citrus; any ''zest'' is a good pace behind. This does not have heavy tangy/sour smell of something like 515 RC-1 (missed 5100), it is more muted and earthy. Yeah the dried fruits are there along with the citrus and hay, the traditional red VA flavors. Pipe Used: T. Bannard(BST) rusticated canadian. Very unpretentious tobacco. Cornell & Diehl's Small Batch Carolina Red Flake 2oz tin - Year 2019 $ 30.00 Per tobaccoreviews.com: "A blend of the finest North Carolina grown red Virginias, harvested in 2015, our Carolina Red Flake is a tribute to the Old Belt. Subtle, sweet and smooth. It is lightly "bready" which is a huge positive for me. Tastes are just over medium the way I smoke it. The strength is a step short of the medium mark. This is about a fresh tin, produced in September 2021. Here's to hoping the next crop is as good as this one! 2000-2023 Laudisi Enterprises, Inc. All rights reserved. Smoked thoughtfully/kept cool it is very fragrant, adding savory wood resins and something like fragrant, almost floral meadow grasses to tastes that otherwise follow the tin note. Tangy sour notes of toasted bread, bright notes of citrus, and a sweet natural mellow toasted sugar flavor throughout if sipped slowly. Further good news, no mold! I find it has slightly less of a nic hit than the most, already mildish VA flakes (a positive for me) and a slightly deeper flavour. It does have some of the cranberry with sourdough bread , spice and vinegar . Hopefully 15 tins, along with the C&D Interlude, Burley Flake #2, and Low Country Santee that I also smoke, will be enough to last me until it comes out again next year. A group member is always on alert to guard the hoard from thieves, while others race through the trees giving parrotlike waka-waka calls. Dried for 10-15 minutes and wow. I had already been hooked on the third pipe that I smoked of this tobacco, to the point that I have been smoking two pipes a day almost every day, thanks also to its smoothness and the ease with which it is smoked. Taste is actually while mild on the palette. But this is wonderful, composed, but with that American "rawness" readily available. 'Fruit Bun'. Great blend & I've bought plenty to cellar should age fairly quickly & the longer, the better. I would have thought I could pick from the myriad blends I've tried some that are better than others, but it wasn't until I smoked this, that I could almost immediately say I had finally realized something that would be a legend of my pipe smoking tobacco experience. I appreciate the lack of anything noticeably present beyond the tobacco flavors themselves, and combined with the high sugar content this year I seems as though CRF should age exceptionally well. We apologize, but this item is temporarily out of stock. Excellent blend that will undoubtedly improve with age. I believe I'm unlikely to find a better Virginia Flake. Three stars: Cornell & Diehl Carolina Red Flake 2022- Sugary sweet and sour and grassy is what I get a lot of with this new release . Not an immediate love affair Yeah. It definitely needs to be smoked slowly, and tends towards a bitter aftertaste towards the bottom of the b (2022 version) This is a tangy, medium-bodied blend of red Virginias that lives up to the billing. Sweet, tangy, and spicy, Carolina Red Flake is both surprisingly straightforward and pleasantly complex: you'll find it's rich, deep, and earthy, with undertones of dried cranberries, orchard grass, and citrus. The strength of the tobacco is below average - I smoked two pipes in a row without feeling the nicotine hit. This is a good description of the smoke, for me. Somewhat tangy but not as vinegary as Sutliff 515 RC-1. Its easy to keep lit, has no bite and is, in my opinion, the best Virginia Ive ever smoked. $ 19.69. The cigar taste and aroma is not necessarily bad but not what I expected from this tobacco. I was surprised by its strength pretty darn strong. The Flakes seemed a bit on the dry side but as flake tobacco goes, the moisture content proved to be spot on and after shredding about three flakes and loading my new pipe, which had only seen one use and that of unadulterated burley, I lit up. Tin aroma is that of hay, earth & grass with no preservative aroma. Ron Swanson. It's straightforward, yet diverse enough to keep you interested all the way through the bowl. A couple bowls and it becomes obvious why these small batch blends go so fast. My understanding is this the last batch of CRF with this grade of Virginia that we will see. A gentle hay-like flavour is notable throughout a bowl, it doesn't make it too ''light'' a flavour but does reduce any chance of the fruity side seeming too clumsy. The tin date is 9/15/20 so its almost exactly two years old. I am biased toward Virgina and this one is maybe the best going. The tobacco is ready to smoke as far as moisture is concerned. Nothing earth shattering, just a really fine tobac co smell, I took the edge of some of the medium cut flakes and stuffed the bowl without rubbing out. The 2022 edition of Carolina Red Flake features matured TA-20 Red-Orange Tips (the same grade as in 2021's Carolina Red Flake with Perique), boasting a substantial natural sugar content of 13.53%, and all sourced from a single family farm in North Carolina. I did manage to stock enough to last a good while, but of all the tobacco's I've tasted, this one is so perfect, and above the rest, that I can truly say it is a masterpiece, at least in the modern sense. Dark, rich and the sweetness builds as the bowl progresses. I remember being a newer pipe smoker and trying it in blends that had it as a base like Autumn Evening and not really caring for it, now its my favorite part of the blend. On the way home I decided Id better order another three more tins as I could see that it will get smoked. the flakes are good humidity level right out of the tin, the tin note is "tobacco", the room note is pleasant, it lights and burns with no trouble. I broke up the big pieces and got a texture similar to the Amphora Red of my youth. Perfect moisture and ready to go from the tin. Significantly better, THIS is the year. I'll give it some time to age a little and come back to it. The first thing that hits you as you light up is the tangy sweetness, wood and earth, which are the main features of the flavors. Then something goes wrong. Moisture is great right out the tin . This is a great red Virginia with a smooth taste and no bite. The 2020 is from a different crop as shown in the description. I do prefer the Anthology and the 2021 CRF W/ Perique that also have these Red/Orange tips included. This is complex, sweet, spicy, and fruity all at the same time. Very sweet - possibly the sweetest tasting and smelling tobacco I've had. I've ordered 22 tins of this now over multiple orders and wish I had maxed out the limit of 25 when SP.com originally released it. All the Small Batch with CRF up to the one with perique were all super disappointing for me. The tobacco's in this blend are mildly sweet, verge on being full flavored (but not strong), and very tasty indeed! I'm sure one day I'll get to try it, but really what a bunch of panic buyer's. 3. The tin was slightly swollen but that proved to be of no concern. One of THE best flake tobacco you can ever smoke and worthy of storing long term in your humidor for those special occasions.
